Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash

Legacy is releasing the Johnny Cash 7″ single “She Used To Love Me A Lot” exclusively to select indie retail for March 11th. The song premiered online this week. Only available for Record Store Day participating stores.

Out Among The Stars 3/25/14:
Throughout his five decades in music, Johnny Cash was unwavering in his dedication to his sound and style. Starting with Sun Records in 1955 through his days at Columbia and beyond, Cash always knew exactly what he wanted to do and exactly how it should sound. Everything he did, all the music he created was definitively Johnny Cash.

By 1980, the business of country music had changed to incorporate sounds that were incongruous with Cash’s. His signature blend of folk and that “boom-chicka-boom” beat was out of vogue amongst the slick string-laden “countrypolitan” sounds that had become popular. This shift left all-time greats like Cash in the odd place of being revered, but not selling albums.

In one effort to enhance his commercial appeal, Columbia Records paired Cash with producer Billy Sherrill who was having major success with this new country sound. While Sherrill selected many of the songs, it was Cash’s trademark sound that dominated.

The sessions were nothing short of magic. Cash employed an expanded band, featuring a young Marty Stuart on guitar and fiddle as well as long-time duet partners June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings. Much of what was recorded was locked away in the vault – lost and not to be heard again. Until now.

The set captures Cash just moments before he would go on to form the Highwaymen, the Eighties country supergroup consisting of him, Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. There will be a tribute to The Highwaymen during this year’s Grammy awards.
Discovered in 2012, Out Among The Stars is truly a lost, previously unreleased Johnny Cash album. These aren’t alternate takes or different versions of songs that you’ve heard. These are brand new songs to the Cash canon.

Completed in 2013 by Johnny’s only son John Carter Cash, Out Among The Stars is a pivotal Johnny Cash album lost in time, and now ready to become a classic.

Check out this Baltimore based band’s new album, Essential Tremors. The band has pretty great rock and roll esque vibe. They’re coming down to Ramshead Live September 20th. I’m telling you, this is the perfect music to end your summer with. Very upbeat, and pretty edgy without being too in your face about it. We have two copies here in the store. Why not come and get it yourself?

STP members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz made their live debut with Chester Bennington at KROQ’s Weenie Roast in May. Since their surprise performance, the band has been busy working on new music for an upcoming EP to be released this fall.
In an effort to take control of the way they will be delivering new music in the future,  STP will release the upcoming EP via their own label, with distribution through ADA (Alternative Distribution Alliance).
“We’re very ambitious about the future of making music,” said Robert DeLeo. “The process and intention of creating it is so much more gratifying.”
The debut single from the new STP lineup, Out of Time is currently Top 5 at Active Rock radio and climbing fast.
“We’ve been writing new material and visiting songs from our early albums,” says Robert. “ It all feels new again and we’re excited to get out and play a solid set of songs both old and new.”
